I am the owner / operator of the Oasis Restaurant and Lounge in Fairbanks . My father , Terry Franklin opened the Oasis in 1997 after owning several other bars in the Fairbanks area since the mid-60s . I began working and managing the Oasis after his passing in 2000 .
I have worked in the bar business off and on since I turned 21 when I learned the trade by bartending on 2 nd Avenue at the old Polaris Lounge .
However , when I took over at the Oasis I discovered my true passion was incorporating great food into a great bar .
Serving on the Alaska CHARR board for the last four years has expanded my knowledge of our industry . We are facing several new challenges and I look forward to tackling them with my fellow board members .
I have over 20 years of high-level managment experience . I possess vital planning , organizational development , office technology , and general management qualifications . As the Senior Retail Operations Manager for Vitus Energy , LLC , I handle all the retail and restaurant operations , including alcohol .
Before Vitus Energy , I had a strong history as a Regional Field Trainer & Recruiter and a District Manager for several larger organizations across the United States . I am currently working on my dissertation to complete my Dr . of Business Administration from Northcentral University , have a Master ’ s Degree in Business Management , and a Bachelor of Science in Management from National American University .
I believe my background will be an asset and provide insight into the retail convenience industry for CHARR .
I am currently serving as a member of the CHARR Board of Directors and am asking for your vote so that I can continue to stay handson in shaping our industry for the future .
I have been in the hospitality industry most of my life , starting with my parents owning restaurants . I was involved in the tourism industry in high school and college , and since 2007 I have owned the Mecca Bar in Fairbanks .
In addition to serving on the Alaska CHARR Board , I am a member of the Alaska CHARR Educational Fund Board . I am very proud to be a part of our scholarship program . Outside of CHARR I am the current treasurer for the Fairbanks Breast Cancer Detection Center board of directors . And I serve as a wish grantor with Make-A-Wish Alaska .
I hope you will continue to allow me the honor of serving our great industry .
