discovering it wasn’ t for him. A year of training in heating and air conditioning led to jobs in the field. Now, he is a Senior Lead Installer at Paschal.
“ This is a good place to be with opportunities to advance,” Burkart said.“ You just need a good work ethic.”
Boyce said learning a trade, like HVAC, can be a good opportunity for new graduates because there is a shortage of skilled workers, due to Baby Boomers retiring and fewer young workers entering the trades.
“ College isn’ t for everyone,” Boyce said.“ A lot of people go to college for four to five years and get a degree. They also usually end up with $ 20,000 to $ 30,000 in debt and fighting for a highly competitive $ 30,000 to $ 40,000 job that may have nothing to do with their degree.”
“ Or, you can enter the trades and start making money immediately. You can make a great living in HVAC, earning anywhere from $ 30,000, $ 40,000, or up to $ 100,000 a year while also receiving full health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits, which is something young people don’ t think about but is very important. Enter the trades,” Boyce added.
The company will continue to add more workers and keep growing.“ We would like to hire 10 to 20 tomorrow if we could find them,” Boyce said.“ We are always looking to hire young people with drive and training them to be successful.”
Paschal is not only dedicated to its customers. The company also cares about its workers. Paschal offers a positive, family atmosphere for employees that includes multiple employee appreciation events, team building activities and after-hours gettogethers.
Also, the company is focused on giving back to the community. Paschal has sponsored the American Heart Association’ s Heart Walk and the St. Jude Walk / Run to End Childhood Cancer with employees taking part in both events.
If you are interested in joining the Paschal family, team members have some advice to help you be successful.
“ You need basic math skills and maybe some geometry,” Burkart said.“ Geometry helps you visualize how the ducts will go through all the tight spaces. It takes a while for that skill to develop.”
High school classes including speech, civics and anything with an ethical element can also help develop customer service and communication skills.
“ You need to learn communication skills,” Williams said.“ Being able to listen and talk to people will get you a long way. It can make customers happy which in turn leads to repeat business.”
Employees also recommend taking any classes that teach problem solving skills.

The job gives you satisfaction at the end of the day, Cockerham said.“ You can see smiles on people’ s faces,” he added.“ You’ ve made people’ s lives better. You’ re the guy that saved the day. It’ s a good feeling being sort of a hero.”
