Girls HAVE TO BE GIRLS
lmost always, conflict seems to generate from specific gender role stereotypes. Gender roles have been a prominent topic in relation to social issues. According to recent statistics, studies have shown that men are typically portrayed to be strong, competitive, rebellious, and hold leadership’s roles. Contrary, women are portrayed to be reliant, innocent, nurturing, and understanding.
Are there distinct differences between men and women? Should there be? How are women supposed to act in public? Are men supposed to obtain specific job occupations? Should all women be stay-at-home mothers? Should all men be business owners and provide a substantial income in order to financially support their families? Are all women thought out to be studious, proficient, and academically advanced?
According to an interview on how men identify gender stereotypes (Are Gender Roles Important to Society), men often see themselves as they are stereotyped- active, powerful, dominant, independent, and self-sufficient. This comes from a self-fulfilling prophecy that exemplifies the expectation of “How Men Are Supposed to be."
