New England High School
Journalism Summer
Workshop is an all-expense
paid summer workshop
from June 25-July 1 for students
interested in journalism. Students
are housed at Regis College (Weston,
Mass.) and work side-by-side with
professional journalists from The
Boston Globe and other New England
media organizations. Students
learn to report, write and edit for a
newspaper that is produced at the
end of the program. Students also
produce multi-media projects for the
program’s website.
How to Advise a Scholastic News
Publication, June 27-July 1 at Boston
University College of Communication
in Boston, Mass. Based on
participants’ priorities, sessions will
include topics including how to keep
a journalistic balance, deal with legal
and ethical considerations, teach
the staff to cover the school and its
community, teach the staff to write
and edit, motivate the staff, teach
fundamentals of photojournalism and
design, plan, set goals and schedule
copy flow for print and online,
manage the business side, critique
the publication, and make the most
of professional resources.
