Rewarded for risks
A printer is a printer is a printer… Not quite! There are many contributing factors that, if properly managed, can facilitate a business’s expansion.
One of these factors is risk. Shereno Printers, a Boksburg-based design and printing company, took a huge risk shortly after inception.
Satellite office established
In fact, the demand for printing from Pretoria was considerable enough
for the company to open a satellite office in Pretoria. “Quantity,
re-orders and technical support had a lot to do with the decision,” Vee
says. “Another factor was some government departments required
support when it came to layout and design of material to be printed. Our

Printing for freedom
Starting out in 1966 servicing the Boksburg region at the time, Shereno
Printers took a risk which may have resulted in more than business
closure at the time. In a time of political uncertainty and upheaval,
the printing company offered a ‘voice’ for some of the then banned
organisations – the ANC among them. This was a conscious

struggle for freedom. “The risks incurred were very high”
explains HR and Admin Manager Vee Garrib. “This kind of
risk-taking is not for the faint-hearted and was totally morally
justifiable.”
In the early 1990’s, a decision was made to broaden our service offering
to make Shereno a one-stop shop for all printing requirements. “That’s
when our layout and design department was born. Subsequently, digital
printing came on stream. We also undertake large-format printing, point
of sale printing, digital embossing, braille printing, reproductions of CD’s
and DVD’s, branding of corporate gifts, among others,” he says.
A significant competitor
When one considers the ‘big industry players’, Shereno is right up among
them and, according to Vee, “many of them have come to recognise us as
an important competitor.”
Today, Shereno Printers competes for Government business
on equal terms with all the large players. It is contracted to
The Government Printing Works. Recently, the company
