Oxbow Creek Elementary sweeps top awards in Stock Market game
Oxbow Creek Elementary School students turned in an outstanding performance, sweeping top awards in the Stock Market Game sponsored by Allianz Financial. Fourth grade students Natalie Carslon, Ava Jensen and Carli Jerpseth won first place in the competition. Fourth grade students Brianna Davis and Miley Jiracek took second place, while fifth grade students Kylee Devening and Avery Hanson, with fourth grade student Leah Murray, placed third. Tracy Korton and John Wippler, both teachers at Oxbow Creek, coached the students in the activity.
Jefferson Awards for Champlin Park High School Students
Executive Director of Community and Government Relations, Al Ickler, announced that four Champlin Park High School students have been named regional champions and earned the Jefferson Award for Students in Action. The students will advance on to national competition. The students are junior Junsheng Zehng, sophomore Grace Bassekle, and freshman William Asinger and Mega Verghese. Jane Hansen is Community Education Community Schools Coordinator who worked with the students and helped coordinate the program.
Anoka High School principal honored with global excellence award
Andrea Nelson with Education First( EF) announced that Anoka High School( AHS) Principal Mike Farley and AHS has been named the recipient of the prestigious EF Global Education Excellence Award. The award is presented to school leaders and schools that show outstanding support for foreign exchange students. Italian exchange student Emma Ferrari provided an overview of her experience as an exchange student at the school.
Anoka High School qualify for BPA nationals
Laura Bement, AHS Business Professionals of America( BPA) coordinator, introduced students that qualified for the BPA national conference and competition. Riley Sumner, was recognized for winning the prestigious Torch Award and also serves as the BPA Minnesota vice-president. Devin Irwin finished in the top third of all competitors in personal financial management, and Sam Scheidecker, captured fourth in the nation for C ++ programming. AHS web application team of Melonie Yang, Jessica Harvey and Susan Sama finished in seventh place, Riley Sumner and Sam Scheidecker captured third place, and Matt Moser and Nathan Culley took second place along with being named best of show at the national conference. Outstanding support from community mentors Chuck Day and Brian Shiek, volunteers from Medtronic, were recognized for their contributions.
Anoka DECA collects national honors
Doug Orr, AHS DECA Advisor, presented students who collected awards at the national DECA competition. Cameron Kerkes captured third place in financial consulting event and Ashley Pugh finished in the top 20 in hotel and lodging event.
Blaine High School BPA honored for excellence
Jason Paske, Blaine High School( BHS) principal, introduced Holly Bosjolie, BPA advisor, who announced BHS received the Minnesota BPA chapter of the year and advanced 26 students at the Business Professionals of America( BPA) nationals competition and received five national awards and a chapter of distinction award. Honored students include sophomores Jacob Ackerman, Abranette Barry, Amara Kettner, Matthew McCormick, Ryan McGregor, Anabelle Wylie, and Kashia Xiong; juniors Abarna Anandaraj, Davis Aswan, Luke Brolsma, Erin Campeau, Jeff Kimenmia, Mike Kombate, Tim Mafe, Cole Martin, David Obwaya, James Tarbell, and Alexis Wagenfeld; seniors Salma Addow, Thomas Frosch, Kendra Kukowski, Theresa Grace Mbanefo, Brooke Newman, Derek Phommahaxay, Emily Sneen, and Jay Tran. Teachers Rachel Bausman and Jennifer Birkmeier also serve as BPA advisors for BHS.
Northdale Middle School St. Cloud State Math competition success
Jeff Leach, principal, announced that a total of nine students competed and seven collected top honors at the St. Cloud State Math competition. Top five percent finishers include seventh-grader Nathan Leonard and eighth-graders Noah Gould and Elijah Mireles. Top 10 percent students include seventh grader Tina Nguyen, and eighth-graders Christopher Daley and Jordan Kipp. Evan Alhoff and Tammy Nguyen competed in the event. Stephanie Pogalz, math teacher, presented the students for the awards.
