Oak View Middle School students make top placement at St. Cloud State Math competition Gary Lundeen, principal of Oak View Middle School (OVMS), along with Lorin Buzay, OVMS math teacher, presented 16 students for achieving top placement at the St. Cloud State Math competition. Placing in the top-five percentile: seventh- graders Isabelle Bradshaw, Abigail Bonnema, Luke Dehnicke, Henry Myos, Joseph Schendel, Grace Swanson, Lucas Witte, and eighth-graders Brady Kloek, Roman Duerr, Eleanor Fredine and Ben Kopetzki. Placing in the top-10 percentile: eighth- graders Jacob Bloom, Eavan Bobbe, Jordyn Hirte, Graham Johnson, and Nathan Wilkerson. Northdale Middle School child nutrition assistant wins Minnesota School Nutrition Association award Noah Atlas, director of child nutrition at Anoka-Hennepin, recognized Gwen Daly, child nutrition assistant, with being named both the Minnesota School Nutrition Association Employee of the Year and the Midwest Employee of the Year. Northdale Middle School math students earn top placement at state competition Jeff Leach, principal of Northdale Middle School (NMS), along with Stephanie Pogalz, math teacher at NMS, presented six students that earned top placement at the St. Cloud State Math competition. Seventh-graders Cassandra Houglum and Matthew Lewandoski earned top 5% placement. Seventh-graders Kevin Nguyen and Tyler Barsness, along with eighth- graders Molly Garber and Brayden Behun, earned top 10% honors. University Avenue ACES curriculum integrator earns Air Force Association Teacher of the Year Diedre Bloemers, principal of University Avenue Elementary School - Aerospace, Children’s Engineering and Science (ACES), honored Kate Watson, curriculum integrator for ACES with earning the Rawlings Chapter of the Air Force Association Teacher of the Year award. Secondary Technical Education Program students place at state HOSA competition Jessica Lipa, director of the district’s Secondary Technical Education Program (STEP), presented STEP junior Jackson Lindstrom for placing first in Personal Care division, and junior Roman Sterpu for placing third in Home Health Aide division, at the Minnesota State HOSA future health professionals competition. Roosevelt Middle School students win Scholastic Gold and Silver key art awards Greg Blodgett, principal of Roosevelt Middle School (RMS), along with RMS art teachers Pam Schwandt and Curtis Huso, recognized 10 eighth-grade students for achieving Gold and Silver Key awards at the Scholastic Art competition. Silver Key Award winners: Anna Bartosch, Xenia Chen, Megan Beebe, Mariah Olson-Hernandez, and Hailey Hansen. Gold Key Award winners: Sophia Larson, Grace Miller, Hollyn Shaughnessy, Cassie Spartz, and Tessa Wayne. Oxbow Creek Elementary fourth-grade students earn third-place at stock market game Rolf Carlsen, principal of Oxbow Creek Elementary School, along with John Wippler, fourth-grade teacher at Oxbow, recognized fourth-grade students Cash Miller, Judah Stein and Derek Roehl for placing third at the Stock Market Game, sponsored by Best Prep. Champlin Park High School recognized International Baccalaureate diploma candidates Ashley Brown, Champlin Park High School (CPHS) International Baccalaureate (IB) coordinator, recognized 16 seniors as candidates for the IB diploma: Dzidedi Azumah, Jaynelle Chang, Bella Coppa, Demond Counce, Austin Deschepper, Dani Eernisse, Bailey Hanson, Kailey Johnson, Grace Kosel, Tara O’Connell, Emma Ockuly, Oksanna Samey, Lindsey Schuster, Alex Snell, Jada Thomson, and Kai Vandermeeden. Brown explained that 375 CPHS students took 706 IB exams this year. BPA students compete at national competition Students from Champlin Park High School and Anoka High School were recognized for competing at the Business Professionals of America (BPA) national competition. Dylan LaFontaine earned the National Torch Award and placed sixth in Interview Skills. Tshej Thao placed seventh in Word Processing. John Zheng earned the prestigious Torch Award and was named National Student of the Year while participating in Graphic Design, Marketing Management and Human Resources. Derek Roberts earned National Participant in Payroll Accounting. Matthew Moser from Anoka High School was honored for a fifth-place finish at BPA nationals. 2
