General post-secondary research on application process and strategies. Students

□ Be knowledgeable of search strategies for post-secondary admission information- prospectus and online.
□ Attend post-secondary campus visits / tours
□ Be knowledgeable of program requirements for post-secondary institutions commonly attended by CHS students.
□ Research new or changing programs at institutions commonly attended by CHS students, specifically changes to admission requirements.
□ Be knowledgeable on search strategies for post-secondary admission websites.
□ Guide students through the application process.

Parents
Post-Secondary Counsellors
□ Attend post-secondary campus visits / tours
□ Be knowledgeable of‘ realistic’ factors including distance from home, financial commitment, academic averages, and other admission requirements.
□ Be aware of other important factors such as size and location of school, housing opportunities, and campus culture,( urban, suburban, multicultural, etc.)
□ Support student in making arrangements for touring campuses of interest.
□ Attend post-secondary fairs, if interested.
□ Share with the student any limitations on applications including financial restrictions related to program tuition, location, residence expectations, etc.
□ Have knowledge of and promote post-secondary fairs to students ensuring they are aware of any changes of venue, date and / or time.
□ Coordinate and advertise post-secondary visits to CHS in a timely fashion.
Maintaining Naviance( online“ college-ready” platform) documentation and tracking. Students
Parents
Post-Secondary Counsellors
□ Activate the school provided Naviance account and understand the importance of this resource.
□ In Grade 12, if applying to the US, link Naviance to the Common Application and complete the FERPA waiver.
□ Maintain an up-to-date list of universities the student is applying to in Naviance INCLUDING program of choice, as appropriate( i. e. Business)
□ Update ALL“ status” changes as they occur(“ Conditional Accept”,“ Denied”,“ Deferred”,“ Waitlisted” or“ Withdrawn”).
□ Communicate ALL changes in application planning directly to your Post-Secondary Counsellor; a simple email message will suffice.
□ Access student Naviance information to track student progress and engage with this resource as a“ viewer” not a“ doer”.
□ Encourage student to keep her Naviance record up-to-date
□ Provide time in class to create a Naviance account and to orient students to this website.
□ Provide class time for students to keep Naviance up to date
□ Respond, if required, in a timely manner to notices of changes in the student’ s plan( i. e. additional application).
