Classroom-based , using a variety of instructional strategies
Ivy Compass 11 is taken by all Grade 11 students . The Ivy Compass 11 curriculum is facilitated through Ivy days , where students are taken out of their regularly scheduled classes and immersed in experiential activities as a grade . Through a variety of learning methods , students will explore the major themes of Truth and Reconciliation , leadership , climate justice , sustainability , and service . Workshops , initiatives , and activities aim to further students ’ critical thinking and ethical decision-making skills within the context of the four compass quadrants : new horizons , environmental education , service learning , and world citizenship . Students will continue to build on developing the skills and attributes to be inspired leaders and socially responsible agents of change . Students will document and reflect on these experiences in their Ivy Compass Journal .

Through a variety of learning methods , students will explore the major themes of effective communication , multiple perspective taking , justice for unhoused people in the City of Vancouver , and engage in a service legacy project for the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver . Workshops , initiatives , and activities aim to further students ’ critical thinking and ethical decision-making skills within the context of the four compass quadrants : new horizons , environmental education , service learning , and world citizenship . Students will refine the skills and attributes required to be inspired leaders and socially responsible agents of change . Students will document and reflect on these experiences in their Ivy Compass Journal .
OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAM
Outdoor Education is an integral part of our students ’ learning and development . As per our mission statement , Outdoor Education enriches the learning of our students to foster selfconfidence , resilience , and creativity to enable each student to reach their unique potential . Outdoor pursuits , for many , are lifelong activities which promote physical , social , and emotional well-being . Outdoor Education trips provide opportunities for cross-curricular integration , teamwork and collaboration , leadership development , community building , and authentic connection to the natural world . Upon graduation , the Ivy Compass student will have been exposed to a range of outdoor activities and will be knowledgeable about local and global environmental challenges and sustainability . The goal is for students to develop the skills that will enable them to become leaders in addressing these issues and in the stewardship of our planet . Through the Outdoor Education program students will develop an appreciation of nature and build a deeper connection to the history of the land we live , study , work , and play on .
