While you ’ re running the Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K , you can make a difference by supporting one of the event ’ s three official charities .

The South African running community is always willing to support worthy causes , and when entering the new Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K , athletes can support one or more of the charities that have been designated as official beneficiaries of the event . The three designated official charities are Reach for A Dream , Cotlands and the Tshwane SPCA

“ We are excited to celebrate the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series ’ debut in Tshwane , and proud to welcome Reach for A Dream , Cotlands and the Tshwane SPCA as the official charities of the event ,” says Michael Meyer , Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series . “ These charities fulfil an imperative role in the community , so we are proud to show our support to them , and would like to encourage all entrants to do the same . No donation is too small , and will enable these charities to continue making a difference in the lives of so many individuals and animals .”

A registered non-profit animal rescue and shelter , the Tshwane SPCA ’ s doors have been open for 113 years to rescue abused and neglected domestic and farm animals , promote responsible pet ownership , provide a shelter for strays , and a veterinary service for pets of underprivileged people . “ As a charity of the inaugural Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K , we will get the opportunity to raise awareness about our mission , while generating much-needed funds to support our programmes and activities , so we can ’ t wait to share the day with the runners ,” says Sonal Valla , Chairperson Tshwane SPCA .
“ Our doors are only open because of the support of the community , as we do not get any funding from the Government . We have many projects that we would like to embark on , but are limited as we just do not have the necessary funds . We welcome any form of support , including monetary , or a donation of dog and / or cat food and cat litter , to mention just a few ways in which the public can make a difference . No donation is too small .”
COTLANDS www . cotlands . org
Cotlands is a registered non-profit organisation that focuses on early childhood development ( ECD ) and can look back on a rich 87-year history of serving young , vulnerable children . Cotlands ’ vision is to see children thrive in their formative years by increasing their access to quality play-based early learning opportunities .
“ We are proud and excited to be selected as one of the charities of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K ,” says Dr Monica Stach , Cotlands CEO . “ The platform allows us to raise much-needed awareness for our cause . Every child deserves access to quality educational resources , including toys and games , to develop social , emotional and cognitive skills . Unfortunately , not all families have the financial means to provide these resources for their children . Together we can make a difference and help ensure every child has access to the educational resources that they need to succeed .”
REACH FOR A DREAM FOUNDATION www . reachforadream . org . za
Established in 1988 , Reach For A Dream ( RFAD ) seeks to inspire hope , courage and strength in the lives of children who need it most , to help them to believe in the power of dreams , and encourage them to keep on fighting their illness . No dream is too big or small , and the RFAD has always sought to help as many children as possible to make their dreams come true .
“ We are grateful to be selected as a beneficiary of the inaugural Absa RUN YOUR CITY TSHWANE 10K ,” says Chloe Katompa , Reach for A Dream Gauteng Regional Manager . “ We ’ re also a beneficiary of the Gqeberha , Cape Town , Durban , and Johannesburg events , and the proceeds raised to date have allowed us to positively impact the lives of children who are fighting a life-threatening illness . The ability to raise funds again through this platform , especially during these very unforeseen times , is an incredible opportunity for us . We can ’ t wait to experience the camaraderie and uplifting energy of the event . To each entrant , thank you for believing in the power of dreams .”
