On Meintjieskop , Tshwane boasts the Union Buildings which is the administrative hub of the country . This imposing building with its terraced gardens was designed by Sir Herbert Baker and formed the setting for the presidential inaugurations of Nelson Mandela and the country ’ s current president , Cyril Ramaphosa . A nine-metre-tall statue of Madiba completes the Freedom Route that traces the path taken by the founder of South Africa ’ s democracy .

Prestigious international and sporting events have been hosted in Tshwane , such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup , 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup , World Choir Games 2018 , Red Bull X-Fighters 2014 – 2015 and Tshwane Open golfing events , together with many international conferences . All these are a testament to our attractiveness and standing as a capable MICE destination .
