Cape Town restomod specialist has an exclusive new model for global buyers.
For nearly three decades, Cape Advanced Vehicles( CAV) has been building and exporting reproductions of the iconic Ford GT40.
Drawing on South Africa’ s proven labour skills in automotive engineering and custom machining, the team at CAV is capable of building GT40 reproductions to American or European standards, but at a much lower cost when priced in Dollars or Euros. The quality of craftsmanship has allowed CAV to build nearly 250 vehicles for global customers.
In a world where the restomod market is becoming increasingly lucrative and competitive, with brands like Singer now offering commissions priced from R20 to R30 million, CAV has taken the opportunity to evolve its offering.
With this year coinciding with Ford’ s historic GT40 Le Mans win and the 1966 podium sweep, the team at CAV has been working on a modernised version of the MkII GT40.
The CAV GT MkII has a silhouette that is unmistakably GT40, but with all the modern technical features and construction techniques that restomod buyers now expect.
Built around a carbon-fibre and aluminium monocoque, the GT MkII is light, at only 1,350 kg. That low weight means it will deliver a driving experience that is agile, with tactile responses through all controls, from brakes to throttle and steering.
Carbon-fibre fabrication is labour-intensive, and its artistry requires highly skilled specialists. The GT MkII’ s air intakes, circular taillight recesses, and a dual-layer active Gurney spoiler that deploys at speed to support aerodynamic performance all required dedicated carbon-fibre design, engineering, and fabrication to achieve the design harmony and structural integrity that CAV required.
