ADVENTURE CHALLENGE
The Time Adventure Challenge 2022
By John Kelly Were you tough enough ?
23 October marked the date of the 2022 Time Adventure Challenge . After taking a two year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic , our multi-stage event was back once again proving to be a great success !
The Time Adventure Challenge is a four-leg relay race inside Mokolodi Nature Reserve which starts with a 10km trail run followed by a 15km mountain bike ride , then another 15km mountain bike ride and finishes with a 5km trail run . Each leg needs to be completed by a member before the next member can continue . Although it ’ s a relay race you can take part as an individual or even teams of two , three or four people as long as all the legs are completed in order . Below is a snippet into what made the 2022 event so popular and well supported !
With the first racers bunched up on the start line ready to go , the 10km runners got under way at 6:30am and had the runners heading out into the Mokolodi Nature Reserve for a gruelling yet scenic run through the lush bushveld .
Running past grazing antelope in the early morning , the first leg of the event also consisted of stunning views of Lake Gwithian and ‘ Kirby ’ s Castle ,’ followed by a climb up to the top of World ’ s View , where the competitors were welcomed by our

Time Projects Water Stop . Having only 3kms left , the runners set off back down to the Start / Finish Area to hand over the baton to the first mountain bike competitors .
With the energetic music put on by the Lifecycle Events Team , the cyclists were eagerly waiting to take on the first 15km mountain bike route . Encouraged by a cheer from the spectators , the 10km runners came into the paddock and handed over the batons to their teammates . The second leg competitors then set off , this time heading out onto beautiful , single-track paths that lead to the east of the Reserve .
Not 40 minutes had past and already the first cyclists were coming in for the exchange . Once again with all the different families and companies shouting and cheering for their competitors , the batons changed hands and the third leg of the race commenced . Much like the 10km run , Mountain Bike 2 headed past Lake Gwithian and up to World ’ s View for a water stop only to go a further 5kms to finish off their loop .
With the day headed towards 9:30am , all were in fear of the searing October heat that was forewarned . Fortunately though , this was not to be , as the day was most certainly blessed to have the perfect amount of cloud cover to keep everyone cool and cheerful .
