The 2025 judicial election on June 1 in Mexico was an unprecedented event: for the first time in the history of the country—and the world—citizens elected judges, magistrates, and justices of the Federal Judiciary by popular vote.
The positions were filled for 881 federal positions, including:
• 9 justices of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN),
• 2 justices of the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal,
• 15 justices of the Regional Chambers,
• 5 justices of the new Judicial Disciplinary Tribunal,
• 464 circuit court justices,
• 386 district judges.
