GATHERING interested PEERS

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my four years with the JCL, it’s not meant to be a party of one! Once you have recognized that a JCL is needed in your community, find others with a similar interest in the Classics or even individuals who just want to get involved. Communicate with them your ideas for why the chapter should be started, what you all can do to further study and incorporate your love for the Classics into everyday life. It is important that you find friends or other individuals who share the same interest as you so that when it comes time to find a sponsor or propose the club to your school administration, there is validity and justification to the fact that a need for a JCL is present within your school community. In gathering support for this, remember to be on the same page as others as to what this is designed to accomplish as well as the benefit it will have as part of the school.

An easy way to find such individuals is to reach out to those who are already take Latin as a course, as well as any others who partake in foreign language or social studies based organization. They most likely will have an interest in history, and thus Classical society would appeal to and interest them.
