FINDING A SPONSOR

If your school offers Latin, finding a sponsor will be as easy as reaching out to your Latin teacher and informing him/her of your plans and intentions. If your school does not offer Latin, find a history teacher who teaches about Roman/Ancient history, and present to them a case as to why you would like to start a chapter, and what your plans would be to create an optimally successful environment for the chapter of JCL. I recommend scheduling a time to meet in a professional setting where you can present all the information and your case as thoroughly as possible. This will demonstrate that you take what you are doing very seriously, and will dedicate time to fully forming a local chapter of JCL. IF you have trouble finding a sponsor, appeal to the administration in stating that there is a demand amongst a significantly sized group of students for the JCL to be implemented. This is not to say that students should strike or protest, but rather state your case to them in a similar professional manner, and ask for their assistance in finding a staff member who will be willing to sponsor.

Once a sponsor has been found, appeal to the administration of your school for approval that JCL is listed as an official club offered by the school. North Gwinnett requires that students file for official club status at least a year in advance, and while this policy varies by school, it is important that you take a look at your school/county policies in filing for clubship. The North Gwinnett Club application includes questions regarding the official name of the club, the club sponsor, initial number of members, and what the ideals/ morals of the club consist of. Again, this varies by school, but administrative approval is needed in order to be seen as an official club by the school.

From here, the chapter must sign up as a member of the JCL for the upcoming year(this year being 2017-2018 school year) in order to be considered an official constituent of the Georgial Junior Classical League. A link to the membership sign-up is offered here for the state level membership and here for the national membership. Sponsors must register as members of the American Classical League(ACL) in order to be recognized as an official chapter of the JCL, membership information for the ACL can be found here
