Attracting Members and/Publicizing your delegation
The number of ways to spread the word about JCL is endless. Below are a few ways to publicize your chapter and encourage members to join
1. JCL-Info Flyers
2. Daily School Announcements
3. Social Media
4. School Newspaper
5. Classically Related Posters
6. Banners
7. Word of Mouth(It’s a lot more effective than you think)!
8. “Pides of March” (an event held by Woodstock High School)
Your club should be founded with at least a handful of members(that means up to 5, North Gwinnett requires 12 in order to be considered an official club) as part of the “charter class” of a club. From there, reach out to individuals in your Latin/Greek class and tell them about all the wonderful stuff in JCL! It is also very easy to attract members by creating initial activities that are very fun, but can be very grand (i.e. Pides of March, in which you pie your sponsor or Latin teacher). Flyers that communicate when and where meetings are held in an eye catching display have also proven very effective.
Word of mouth, though it is an extremely conventional method, is extremely effective. People love to talk to people, so have your friends who already love the JCL dedicate some of their time discussing their experience with it and what it means to them to various Latin classes. By communicating a personal experience, you are able to create a genuine connection and spark further intrigue that will invite people to attend meetings and events that’ll make them want to invite others to join. This creates a chain effect that can lead from 10 members one year to 60 members the next.
