Case of Curious Coaches –
The FA Club Coach
Mentoring Programme
Speaker: Tony Stanger (sportscotland institute of sport)
Speaker: Graham Keeley (The FA)
Why do some athletes who were amazing juniors never make
it at senior level? And why do some athletes who had limited
success when they were young go on to have amazing careers?
This session is designed for coaches who want to know more
about why this can happen and how they can use a better
understanding of talent and the role of mindset to help young
athletes reach their potential.
The session will look at the FA’s pilot grass-roots mentoring
programme – its aims, how it was rolled out and the key
findings to inform the national roll-out.
Tony Stanger will share the work of the sportscotland institute
of sport with coaches, parents, athletes and governing bodies,
and some tools to help improve delegates’ coaching. More
specifically, the session will show how delegates can use a
robust definition of talent to create environments designed to
give athletes the best chance of success.
