Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated  86TH CENTRAL REGIONAL CONFERENCE REGISTRATION BOOK "Exemplifying Excellence with Confidence and Southern Charm in the Bluegrass State” SATURDAY, MARCH 14, 2020 WK01 Communications WORKSHOPS DESCRIPTIONS Visual Communications In today’s digital world, we can be exposed to more than 5,000 ads per day. Nearly all of these messages are ignored or quickly forgotten. People just don’t have the time or attention span to read even the shortest written messages. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to create images and design elements that convey information that can be quickly understood. We will focus on visual elements that can be used on social media – flyers, Power Point presentations and other promotional materials. WK02 Connection Exemplifying Excellence: AKAs L.E.A.D. Into Decision 2020 This workshop will share Get Out The Vote (GOTV) strategies and program ideas that chapters can implement to educate, register, and mobilize communities for successful AKAs L.E.A.D. Voter Engagement Campaigns. Guidance will also be offered on how to organize non-partisan GOTV events including DO’S and DON’Ts of political affiliations, candidate fundraisers, endorsements, and participation in marches, rallies and demonstrations. WK03 Constitution APPLICATION – Time to DO IT In this workshop you will use what you know by successfully APPLYING Parliamentary Procedure and your knowledge of our documents. Join us for this interactive workshop where you will “act out” your answers. Others will identify the possible source. All workshop participants will have an opportunity to offer other possible solutions. Lastly, you will discuss “Was the chosen action the most effective and WHY. No one will leave uninformed. WK04 Finance Managing Chapter Financial Operations Using the Fiscal Fitness Guide for Chapter Financial Operations This interactive workshop provides participants with information on chapter financial procedures and operations. Participants will learn the roles and responsibilities of the financial officers, expectations of being a financial leader and guidelines for managing financial operations. Sorors will become well versed on the information included in the Fiscal Fitness Guide for Chapter Financial Operations, which includes budgeting, auditing, internal controls and financial statement reporting. WK05 Foundations Foundations Fundamentals This workshop is a must for every chapter that has a foundation and for those chapters that would like to start a foundation. It will be an interactive workshop designed to provide information regarding the difference between a 501(c )(3) and 501 (c)(7) tax status, provide best practices in the do’s and don’ts of operating a foundation, and explain Article III .Section 20 of the Constitution and Bylaws by providing examples on how a chapter and foundation can collaborate in executing sorority program targets. WK06 Membership #AKALife…Sustaining Life-Long Service and Sisterhood through Effective Chapter Mentoring This interactive workshop will focus on Mentoring Best Practices. “The Process of Life Long Sisterhood” will be provided, covering new and improved concepts and strategies offered for effective chapter mentoring, planning and development. Further, the Committee will introduce the use of Soror-to- Soror coaching as an instrument for chapters to support impactful mentoring efforts. Participants will be engaged in interactive case study scenarios. Best of the Best Membership recognition certificates will be awarded to chapters. WK07 MIP Graduate A Roadmap to Conducting a Graduate MIP with EXCELLENCE This workshop will provide step by step directions for the following: (1) submitting accurate MIP forms and documents; (2) acceptable formats for submitting transcripts; and (3) the NEW Active Chapter Participation Criteria for sponsorship.
