The cost of a taxi fare could fill my little tank for a week!
It was so amazing to be on the road a full year even before my friends got their provisional.
The best memories I have of that first year were doing the Yorkhill Easter run with so many other bikes of all sizes.
Everyone was so friendly and made me feel part of the day, even although my bike was tiny. I also loved finishing college on a Friday and meeting my mum on her bike and we would go for a run and have some lunch. We called it Motorcycle Friday.
When I turned 17 I started my driving lessons then passed my test 1st time. I put that down to the fact that I had been on the road already for a year so understood things so much better. After the next Easter run I sold my bike. I had a car now and had even more freedom but to be very honest I felt that something was missing.
So it’s now almost 3 years past my first CBT and as I’m coming up to 19 so I could learn to ride a bigger bike then get my A2 licence I thought, yes, why not. I love my car so much but the Bike was my first love and I have had to go back to it.
Again the boys at Route 66 were amazing. They made me feel so good and again I have my CBT and I’m ready for the road.
I would say to every parent, especially if you have a daughter to buy them a bike and a CBT for their 16th birthday. Give them the freedom and reasonability to have their independence.
Being on a small motorcycle at 16 made me a more observant car driver. I can’t thank the guys at Route 66 enough for giving me the gist of my freedom and teaching me how to ride in a safe way. There is nothing like the feeling of your own 2 wheels.
