Knox Handroid Gloves are “The best motorcycle gloves in the world”, according to riders that use them. They certainly don’t look much like any other glove so does their performance also mark something unique?
Better known for their armor and back protectors, Knox have brought a new innovative design to their gloves.
The "Exoskeleton Spines" on the fingers and the "Boa Lacing System" on the gauntlet are a clear exodus from the regular slip on, Velcro-tied leather gloves. Although a bit of time has passed since they were first introduced the Handroid’s were voted Innovation of the Year 2011 by the British motorcycling press.
Most noticeable are the Exoskeletal flexible finger spines covering the knuckles, fingers and thumb. These link to a comfortable gel lined metapod that covers the back of the hand. On the palm the patented Scaphoid Protection System (SPS), is enhanced by additional sliders on the wrist and cuff which ensure that in the event of an accident the majority of contact with the ground is with the SPS and not leather.
An additional inner cuff slider works to support and enhance the SPS sliding effect. The inside of the palm and fingers is covered by tear-resistant Kangaroo leather.
The Knox Boa lacing system is the next surprise. The wrist systems tightens equally as you dial in the closure system that operates on ‘49 individual strands of aircraft grade stainless steel wire that are compressed for a smooth surface and incredible strength.’
It may take some getting used to but the fit is strong and very comfortable when tightening on the closure dial. Tension is easily released by lifting the dial and opening the cuff.
The build quality is obvious from the outset and it stakes its claim with the level of comfort whilst wearing the gloves. Despite the Exoskeletal spines, and the many sliders, the gloves are flexible, comfortable and don’t hamper dexterity any more that regular gloves do.
The Handroid gloves are CE-approved as a Personal Protective Equipment Category 1, according to the label. We haven’t crash tested them, because we haven’t found someone willing to let us crash a bike.
It's the September give-away
