My mum asked me if I wanted a scooter for my 16th birthday and at first I was so excited about it but then I started to get a little apprehensive about learning to ride.
She called Route 66 in Motherwell so I could get my CBT arranged and I really was more than a little apprehensive when it came to the morning of the CBT.
It was my 16th birthday. When I went in the instructors made me feel at ease and just explained what was going to happen that day. I learned the importance of the appropriate bike clothing and to treat my helmet with care.
Then came the Highway Code. I had been going over the Highway Code for days and when it came to the first question my mind went blank but again the instructor put me at ease. I was starting to enjoy my day by the time I got into the practice yard and then the rest of the time just flew in.
As soon as I had my CBT, I was off. I had never felt so free. My friends had to rely on their parents to take them where ever they wanted to go but not me. I had my own 2 wheels and could go anywhere at any time that I wanted.
I could get myself to college and then go to my friends houses. No need for taxis or ask for lifts.
