Course Name: AP French Language and Culture Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 11th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: H. French IV( 80 %+) OR Teacher Recommendation
Description: This course is an intermediate level college course in French. Students cultivate their understanding of French language and culture by applying interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication in real-life situations as they explore concepts related to family and community, personal and public identity, beauty and aesthetics, science and technology, contemporary life, and global challenges. This course will involve extensive readings, independent study, and frequent written / document analysis to prepare students for the AP French Language and Culture Exam. By earning a 4 or 5 on the AP exam, students will earn a Biliteracy seal on their diploma. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: Pre-IB French I, II, & III Type of Course: Elective Course
Available to: 9th- 10th grade IB
Prerequisites: Must be accepted into the IB Program
Description: This course develops students’ oral and written language proficiency with a strong emphasis on oral communication in preparation for the IB Internal Assessment, Paper 1, and Paper 2. Across these courses, students build and strengthen interpersonal communication skills while expanding and deepening their understanding of the culture of the French-speaking world. Students in Pre-IB French II & III can earn 0.5 quality point towards their GPA( NOT Pre-IB French I).
Course Name: IB French B SL Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 11th- 12th grade IB
Prerequisites: Must be accepted into the IB Program
Description: Language B is an IB language acquisition course for IB Diploma students aimed at strengthening their communication skills and intercultural understanding. Students develop proficiency through the study of language, texts, and five prescribed themes: identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organization, and sharing the planet. Exam Required. This course is only for students in the IB program. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
