Course Name: French I Type of Course: Elective Course
Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: None
Description: This course is an introduction to the language and culture of France and other French-speaking countries. The course will enable students to attain a beginner’ s level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with an emphasis on oral proficiency.
Course Name: French II Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: French I( 70 %); MS-HS French( 70 %+)
Description: This course is designed to further develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing with an emphasis on oral proficiency. The student will acquire a basic command of key vocabulary / grammatical structures necessary for limited personal communication and an appreciation of diversity in the French-speaking world.
Course Name: Honors French II Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: French I( 85 %+); MS-HS French( 85 %+)
Description: An accelerated course designed to give a more in-depth development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in French with an emphasis on oral proficiency, designed to prepare students for other Honors and AP French courses. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: Honors French III Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: French II( 85 %+) OR H. French II( 80 %+)
Description: This course is designed to further develop a student’ s communication skills and cultural appreciation of the French-speaking world. The student will be able to participate in a variety of oral and written activities through reading and writing stories and essays, watching videos in French, and speak French most of the time. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: Honors French IV Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 11th and 12th grade Prerequisites: H. French III( 80 %+)
Description: This course is designed to increase oral and written fluency and to provide intensive study of the culture, geography, and history of the French-speaking world. French is only spoken in this course, and many activities include watching shorts films from various French speaking countries, reading authentic articles and poems, have debates and philosophical discussions, reading novels, listening to music, playing French games, and watching full length French films! Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
