Course Name: AP Studio Art Drawing Type of Course: Elective Course
Available to: 11th and 12th grade
Prerequisites: Teacher recommendation AND Fall art course must be taken
Description: This course is an introductory college-level drawing course. Students will refine and apply drawing skills to ideas they develop throughout the course. Students will develop skills in drawing as they explore different media and approaches. Students will create a portfolio of work to demonstrate inquiry through art and design and development of materials, processes, and ideas over the course of a year. The student’ s portfolio will serve as the AP“ exam” for this course. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: IB Visual Arts Year One / Year Two HL Type of Course: Elective Course
Available to: Magnet 11th and 12th grade
Prerequisites: Must be in the IB Program
Description: This is a college-level, two-year course examining how visual expression helps us understand the world, connect ideas, and interpret human experience across social, cultural, and historical contexts. In this course, students create art, explore personal lines of inquiry, and develop a distinctive visual language while analyzing how artists communicate meaning and respond to their surroundings. Through inquiry, critical thinking, and communication skills that extend far beyond the classroom. Exam Required. This course is only for students in the IB program. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
