Course Name: Honors Spanish II Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Spanish I( 85 %+); MS-HS Spanish( 85 %+)
Description: This course is designed for the student who has demonstrated superior facility in foreign language and offers a variety of opportunities for enrichment and oral work. The goal for certain grammatical functions will be full control rather than partial control. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: Honors Spanish III
Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Type of Course: Elective Course
Prerequisites: Spanish II( 85 %+); H. Spanish II( 80 %+)
Description: This course is designed to further develop a student’ s communication skills and cultural appreciation of the Spanish-speaking world. The student will be able to participate in a variety of oral and written activities through reading and writing stories and essays, watching videos in Spanish, and speaking Spanish most of the time. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: Honors Spanish IV Type of Course: Elective Course
Available to: 11th and 12th grade
Prerequisites: H. Spanish III( 80 %+)
Description: This course is designed to further develop a student’ s communication skills and cultural appreciation of the Spanish-speaking world. Spanish is only spoken in this course, and many activities include watching shorts films from various Spanish speaking countries, reading authentic articles and poems, have debates and philosophical discussions, reading novels, listening to music, playing Spanish games, and watching full length Spanish films! Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: AP Spanish Language & Culture Type of Course: Elective Course
Available to: 12th grade
Prerequisites: H. Spanish IV( 80 %+)
Description: This course is equivalent to an intermediate level college course in Spanish. Students cultivate their understanding of the Spanish language and culture by applying interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes of communication in real-life situations as they explore concepts related to family and communities, personal and public identities, beauty and aesthetics, science and technology, contemporary life, and global challenges. This course will involve extensive readings, independent study, and frequent written / document analysis to prepare students for the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam. By earning a 4 or 5 on the AP exam, students will earn a Biliteracy seal on their diploma. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
