Course Name: Native Speakers Spanish II Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Native Speaker I( 70 %+)
Description: This course is designed for heritage learners of Spanish who bring strong proficiency and literacy skills in Spanish, as well as for those who have completed Spanish for Native Speakers I. This course focuses on the development of advanced communicative competence in reading, writing, speaking and listening and viewing, as well as on understanding Hispanic cultures and issues of identity of heritage speakers of Spanish in the United States. Students will also continue to develop awareness and understanding of Hispanic cultures, including language variation, customs, geography, history, and current events.
Course Name: Honors Native Speakers Spanish III Type of Course: Elective Course
Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Native Speaker II( 85 %+)
Description: This course is a continuation of the study of the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. The student will acquire a basic command of key vocabulary / grammatical structures necessary for limited personal communication and an appreciation of diversity in the Spanish-speaking world. The course strives to help the learner acquire knowledge of the language and proficiency by integrating the four skills of listening, speaking, writing, and reading. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.

Description: This course is an introduction to the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking countries. This course is the foundation for students to begin developing proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Development of these four skills will occur in a curriculum that emphasizes the foreign language content standards of communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities.
