Living up to our national reputation of thinking outside of the box , the BSO partnered with Mindgrub Technologies , Greater Baltimore Committee , and the McDonough School to present a first of its kind performance event at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall this summer . AI in A Minor highlighted the talent of the world-class BSO musicians and the endless possibilities of artificial intelligence ( AI ) technology . Moderated by Mindgrub ’ s Chief Technology Officer , Jason Perry , it included a Ted Talk-style presentation interspersed between the performances .

Audiences learned how the AI-generated compositions leveraged the power of Amazon Web Services ’ machine learning and AI cloud technologies alongside a range of open-source and commercial tools . We were introduced to how AI can generate music from specific artist influences and styles . AI in A Minor also raised the limitations of AI , including the necessary human-hand of a composer to transcribe new compositions into sheet music that was playable by live musicians on classical instruments .

The news of this blend of innovation and creativity made its way through the region and across the country drawing various opinions and piquing the interest of tech and music enthusiasts alike .
