Coll Emergency Medical Careers I [ STEP only, concurrent enrollment with Anoka Technical College.] Prerequisite / Selection process: College Admission Requirements Intended audience: Grades 10, 11, 12 Credit: One trimester / two periods = 1.0 credit Major outcomes:
• Operation of emergency medical equipment
• Assessment of medical and trauma patients
• CPR certification
• MN state certification as an Emergency Medical Responder

• Advanced training in emergency medical skills
• Opportunity to take National Registry exam for emergency medical technician
• Leadership development Projects, activities, etc.: Advanced patient care and clinicals with ambulance service, fire dept. or emergency room. Prep for the opportunity to take the test for NREMT. Instructional focus: Hands-on activities, lecture and group work
Dental Occupations [ Students may earn Articulated College Credit ] [ STEP only ] Intended audience: Grades 11 and 12 Credit: One trimester / two periods = 1.0 credit Major outcomes:
• Importance of oral health, hygiene, and diet
• Perform a wide range of dental services
• Explore various recognized entry-level, technical, and professional dental careers

Nursing Assistant [ STEP only ] Course Overview: This course teaches students about patient care that can be applied to various healthcare careers. The curriculum meets the requirements set by the Minnesota Department of Health( MDH) and prepares students to take the MN Nurse Aide Competency exam to become a registered nurse aide. Recommended( Not Required) Prerequisites: Medical Anatomy I & II, Medical Terminology Concurrent Enrollment with Anoka Intended audience: Grades 11 and 12 Credit: One trimester / two periods = 1.0 credit Major outcomes:
• Develop essential patient care skills: vital signs, personal care( bathing, feeding, toileting), patient transfers, and infection control( including proper handwashing).
• Develop soft skills necessary for employability in healthcare.
• Meet competency standards set by the MN Nurse Aide registry.
• Provide patient care in healthcare facilities by participating in 16 hours of supervised practical training( outside of regular school hours). Optional to participate but required to qualify for nurse aide certification
Additional Information:
• Various costs are associated with supervised practical training and the nurse aide competency exam( e. g., uniform, background testing fees, medical laboratory test, transportation)
• Qualifies for Articulated College Credit
• Minimum attendance requirements to meet MDH guidelines
