Education Support Careers [ STEP only ] Intended audience: Grades 10, 11 and 12 Credit: One trimester / two periods = 1.0 credit Major outcomes:
• Explore educational support careers
• Experience the daily role of a paraprofessional educator
• Develop and implement student support frameworks to ensure student success
• Review academic content contained in the ParaPro assessment & use it to develop classroom activities that support student learning
Projects, activities, etc.: Relationship building exercises, exploring teaching strategies and learning styles, developing integrated reading, writing, and mathematics activities for learners Instructional focus: Discussion, small / large group activities, project based activities, guest presenters, observation and research
STEP Coll Foundations of Education [ STEP ] [ Concurrent enrollment with Anoka Ramsey Community College ] Intended audience: Grades 10, 11, 12 Prerequisites / Selection Process: College admission requirements Credit: One trimester / Two Periods = 1.0 credit Successful completion will earn 4 college credits. Major outcomes:
• Explore the education, teaching and training career pathway: the teaching profession, philosophy of education, the learner and the learning process, planning instruction, learning environment, assessment and instruction strategies Projects, activities, etc.: Lesson plan development and presentation, field observation, career plan, guest speakers / presenters Instructional focus: Research and observation

• Interview skills
• Core skills related to healthcare field: healthcare safety, communication, client needs, diversity, legal and ethical issues in healthcare

Medical Assistant Careers [ STEP Only ] Intended audience: Grades 11 and 12, students interested in medical careers Credit: One trimester / two periods = 1.0 credit Major outcomes:
• Investigate the medical assistant profession
• Includes other medical careers: doctors, PA / NP, surgeons, lab, radiology, surgery, etc.
Projects, activities, etc.: Hands-on practice of skills used in medical clinics: measuring vital signs, patient observation, giving injections, venipuncture, removing sutures, labs and microbiology, medications, assisting with minor surgery( Skills are practiced on manikins and models) Instructional focus: Discussion, large / small group activities, hands-on practice, projects
