Enrolment Residency Requirements and ISG Compliance
4.1 Ordinarily Resident and the Independent School Grant( ISG) Obligations
CHS, with few exceptions, restricts enrolment to students whose Parent( s)/ Guardian( s) are“ Ordinarily Resident” in British Columbia.
To be eligible for the ISG, at least one of the Student’ s Parent( s)/ Guardian( s) must be a resident in British Columbia and either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise lawfully admitted into Canada in one of the categories listed below:

A person who has been determined under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act( Canada) to be a refugee or refugee claimant;
A holder of a valid student permit issued for one year or more under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act( Canada);
A holder of a valid work permit issued for one year or more under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act( Canada); or
A person carrying out official duties under the authority of the Visiting Forces Act or as an accredited diplomatic agent, preclearance officer, consular officer or official representative in Canada of a foreign government with a consular post in British Columbia.
Independent schools are required to verify that Parents / Guardians are Ordinarily Resident in British Columbia. As evidence of the Student ' s " Ordinarily Resident " status and to comply with provincial health and safety mandates, the School requires Parent( s)/ Guardian( s) to provide the Student’ s valid Personal Health Number( PHN). If no Parent / Guardian of the Child qualifies for the ISG, the Parent( s)/ Guardian( s) identified as exceptions must pay an additional fee, billed on the September statement( see Section 9: Financial Obligations).
For the School to receive the ISG, the Student must also be in attendance in classes at the School for a defined number of hours, as established by the Ministry. Parent( s)/ Guardian( s) must pay the School an additional fee to offset any loss of ISG if the Student fails to meet the mandatory attendance hours.( See Section 9: Financial Obligations)
4.2 Required Residency Status and Parental Absence The Student must reside with at least one Parent / Guardian throughout the time School is in session.
Parental absences where both Parent( s)/ Guardian( s) are away from the Household when School is in session must be limited to a minimum and must not interfere with the Student ' s education or well-being.
If, in exceptional and time-limited circumstances, the Child will not be residing with a Parent / Guardian, or if both Parent( s)/ Guardian( s) will be absent from the Household, the Parent( s)/ Guardian( s) must immediately notify the Front Office of the respective school.
