Certificates TRAUMA CERTIFICATE
Description: The Trauma-Informed Care Certificate is designed for undergraduate students. The certificate provides interdisciplinary evidence-based curriculum that equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to recognize, respond to, and support individuals impacted by trauma across educational, healthcare, social service, and organizational settings. The Trauma-Informed Care Certificate includes a total of four 3-credit classes, for a total of twelve credits. Two courses are mandatory( foundational courses) and students are able to choose two additional special topics classes to complete the certificate from a list of approved interdisciplinary courses on the Trauma-Informed Care Certificate curriculum sheet.
Program Student Learning Outcomes PLO 1: Explain the impact of trauma across the lifespan, including neurobiological, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions, and how trauma influences learning, behavior, health, and relationships. PLO 2: Apply trauma-informed care principles( safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural humility) in academic, professional, and community contexts. PLO 3: Analyze systems and environments( e. g., schools, workplaces, healthcare, justice systems, communities) for trauma-informed strengths and gaps. PLO 4: Demonstrate ethical, culturally responsive, and inclusive practices when engaging with individuals and communities impacted by trauma. PLO 5: Integrate interdisciplinary perspectives to address trauma and promote resilience, healing, and well-being. PLO 6: Reflect critically on personal and professional roles, recognizing secondary trauma, boundaries, and strategies for self-care and sustainability. Program Admissions Requirements and Procedures: Any student accepted into the University can add a Trauma-Informed Care Certificate to an existing Major or can enroll solely in the Trauma-Informed Care Certificate program. To successfully complete the Certificate, students must have completed a minimum of an Associates degree or equivalency( 60 credits completed at a regionally accredited institution).
