AMERICAN LEGION POST 216
The Woodcock Herbst American Legion Post 216 and its Auxiliary meet at 7 p . m ., the first Thursday of each month at the Princeton Civic Center , 503 N . Ninth St . Many times a guest speaker comes to talk with or to entertain the group . Business meetings usually last less than an hour .
The Civic Center building represents both the Legion ’ s administrative base and a major project it sponsored . The members provided a huge monetary donation and countless hours of members ’ labor both young and old . What was an aging , neglected building has become a vibrant hub of activity , thanks to a majorly refreshed facility . The Legion helped redo the whole building and add such amenities as a gas fireplace , full commercial kitchen , tables , chairs , barstools , updated carpet , new paint and more . Sons of the American Legion use the space to host monthly omelet breakfasts from September to May . The profits from the breakfast go directly back into the community .
The American Legion engages in several community activities every year and supports a number of local causes and events . It works closely with the local VFW to attend veterans ’ causes such as Memorial Day observances and Veterans Day honors . The Auxiliary works each Christmas to organize and fill goodie boxes for troops who are away from home during the holidays ; for a while the Civic Center becomes a busy packaging center . Connect with the Legion by calling Randy Hatch at 612-986-4360 or look up the Legion on Facebook .
