PRESENTING DANIEL JOSEPH GEIGERMAN AS CANTOR AND TEACHER IN ISRAEL
Presented by Cantor Michael Kasper
Daniel Geigerman, with a rich baritone voice and easy smile, began readying himself for a life in the cantorate as a child – even if maybe he didn’ t know it! Daniel grew up in shul. He was that kid who was always around, always at the Friday night service, enjoying religious school, finding it easy to talk to adults, liking his teachers, enjoying the b’ nei mitzvah learning process. And when he wasn’ t at synagogue he might be found at concerts, shows, museums, and especially, St. Louis’ s Fabulous Fox Theatre where his parents took him to see so many things. He was on his way.
During his first year of college Daniel, while walking, was hit by a young driver and spent the next eight months recovering at home. It was during this time that he learned to play the guitar and it was during this time that Cantor Seth Warner came to visit. Cantor Warner’ s visits turned into an opportunity for Daniel to take on odd-jobs in the synagogue. It was a beginning.
Daniel holds a B. A. in Music from Webster University and a Master of Sacred Music degree from the Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music at Hebrew Union College. As a congregational leader he brings energy and direction to the musical settings he chooses. His sense of humor is never far behind and even his most soulful and plaintive offerings are helped to come alive because they are pitched against the very real juxtaposition of a full emotional palette.
Over these last years I’ ve gotten to know Daniel and I’ ve seen him in action. I’ ve been his teacher and I’ ve had the privilege of being a tester on every one of the many comprehensive exams he took. I know, firsthand, how hard he studied and I’ ve seen him grow into the cantor he becomes, today. I am so proud of his accomplishment, this amazing accomplishment, and I know that he is too. Well done, Cantor Geigerman; well done!
