“ Cycling— along with World TEAM— saved my life.
I’ m a highly decorated U. S. Army veteran and Wounded Warrior. After 24 years of service and five tours in Iraq, Kuwait, Bosnia, and Afghanistan, I came home carrying both visible and invisible scars. I had been shot, survived a fall from a helicopter, endured 14 surgeries, and gained 100 pounds. I was struggling with anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
Then came my turning point. My wife, Maribel, bought me my first bike. Within six months, I had lost 80 pounds, and more importantly, I found a path toward healing. Cycling gave me hope, strength, and purpose. When I ride, my anxiety and depression ease. I love cycling so much that when I am not on my bike, I dream about it.
Through World TEAM, I met fellow veterans who understood my journey. I ride for my incredible family--especially my wife who never left my side, Whenever I feel like I want to throw in the towel, I tell myself to NEVER GIVE UP.
Today, endurance sports keep me motivated, and I’ m focused on becoming the best cyclist I can be. Because every mile I ride proves that no matter the struggle, there’ s always a way forward.”
