METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORTS AUTHORITY
Wings for All
Wings for All is a program designed to empower individuals with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities by familiarizing them with the air travel experience. In 2025, the Airports Authority welcomed more than 125 local children and their families at our airports to participate in this program.
Participants embarked on a guided step-by-step simulation of the airport journey, beginning with airline check-in and continuing through TSA security screening, gate navigation, aircraft boarding and in-seat orientation. Each phase was carefully rehearsed within the airport environment, allowing families to experience the full process without ever leaving the ground.
Wings for All aims to reduce the anxiety often associated with air travel, especially during busy holiday seasons, by building familiarity and confi dence in a supportive setting. The dedication of airport staff, TSA agents and United Airlines crew members played a vital role in creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
This event was made possible by a partnership of the Airports Authority, the Arc of Northern Virginia and United Airlines, refl ecting a shared commitment to accessibility in air travel.
