Driving Regional
The Airports Authority serves as a major economic engine for the region, supporting jobs, business activity, tourism and long-term economic growth throughout Virginia and the greater Washington metropolitan area.
Visitor spending generated through travel at Reagan National and Dulles International airports delivers signifi cant economic benefi ts to local communities, supporting businesses across the hospitality, transportation, retail and service sectors. In 2024, visitor spending associated with Virginia’ s airports supported more than 88,000 jobs, generated $ 4.3 billion in wages, contributed $ 7.8 billion to the gross state product and produced $ 12.6 billion in total economic output.
Investing for Impact
The Airports Authority is committed to supporting small, local and disadvantaged business enterprises through intentional outreach, collaboration and procurement efforts across the National Capital Region. By engaging with certifi ed fi rms, providing educational and networking opportunities and prioritizing participation in contracting and purchasing activities, the Airports Authority helps expand economic opportunities and strengthen regional business growth.

Every passenger, every fl ight and every transaction contributes to a broader ecosystem that supports jobs, strengthens local businesses and delivers measurable fi nancial impact across the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond.

The Airports Authority contributed more than $ 35 billion in total economic output to Virginia through commercial activity connected to airport operations and travel activity. These impacts extend far beyond the airports, helping sustain livelihoods, strengthen local businesses and drive continued economic momentum across the region.
More than 160 Companies Complete Small Business University
The Authority founded its Small Business University program in 2018 to help expand the number of small companies qualifi ed to bid on contracts. The goal is to make sure there is a broad spectrum of suppliers to help the Authority better serve the traveling public and help build the regional economy.
Since it began, 168 companies have completed the program. A cross-functional team led by Supply Chain Management and small business programs make the project possible, in partnership with the District of Columbia’ s Small Business Development Center Network at Howard University.
Supporting the Community
Community engagement is central to the Airports Authority’ s mission and organizational culture. Through charitable initiatives, volunteerism, academic partnerships and collaborative community programs, the Authority works to create meaningful and lasting impact throughout the region it serves.
The Airports Authority contributes time, expertise and resources through partnerships with local and regional nonprofi ts, public agencies, schools and community organizations, to advance initiatives focused on sustainability, accessibility, education, workforce development, wellness and community resilience. These efforts refl ect an ongoing commitment to supporting the people and communities connected to Reagan National and Dulles International airports.
