Misdemeanor Probation Oversight

Strengthening Standards, Building Trust

The Misdemeanor Probation Oversight Unit( MPOU) advances accountability, fairness, and consistency across Georgia’ s community supervision system. Through statewide oversight, MPOU ensures misdemeanor probation services are delivered in compliance with Georgia law and aligned with professional standards— strengthening transparency and public confidence.

While DCS does not directly supervise misdemeanor cases, MPOU provides critical oversight of local and private probation providers. In FY2025, the Unit completed 57 compliance reviews, assessing legal compliance, operational practices, and program quality. When opportunities for improvement were identified, MPOU delivered handson technical assistance to promote consistency and strengthen local operations statewide.

Strengthening Practice Through Training

MPOU also supports professional development across the misdemeanor probation system. In FY25, MPOU completed 57 compliance reviews of misdemeanor probation entities statewide, assessing operational practices, legal compliance, and program quality. When opportunities for improvement were identified, MPOU provided targeted technical assistance to strengthen local operations and promote consistency across jurisdictions.

MPOU also advanced professional development through 442 training sessions totaling 610 hours, reaching 5,920 participants statewide, including both sworn and unsworn personnel. These efforts emphasized ethics, case management, and professional engagement— key components of fair and effective supervision.
