Integrated Dynamic Risk Assessment for Community Supervision( IDRACS)
Supervision agencies use risk assessments to determine the intensity of supervision based on a person’ s likelihood of reoffending. This allows time and resources to be prioritized where they are most needed, representing a critical first step in delivering Person-Centered Supervision( PCS). While risk assessments have traditionally relied solely on static factors, DCS, with support from the National Institute of Justice and the Research Triangle Institute( RTI), launched the Integrated Dynamic Risk Assessment for Community Supervision( IDRACS) on November 1, 2024. IDRACS examines both static and dynamic risk factors to calculate a person’ s likelihood of reoffending and updates daily based on the presence, absence, or occurrence of specific events.
The second phase of the IDRACS project focuses on developing a comprehensive Needs and Responsivity component. This will enable DCS to systematically capture individuals’ criminogenic needs and responsivity factors, ensuring interventions are personalized and evidence-based. Dr. Pam Lattimore from RTI describes the IDRACS project as“ a leading example of high-quality corrections research, generating new insights for the broader criminal justice field and practical results that strengthen correctional policy and operations.” Together, these advancements position DCS to deliver supervision that is both datadriven and person-centered, improving outcomes for individuals on supervision while strengthening public safety.
