Recidivism Reduction

Reducing Risk. Restoring Lives.

The Recidivism Reduction Unit( RRU) focuses on empowering individuals under supervision to make lasting, positive change. Counselors across Georgia work one-on-one and in group settings to deliver rehabilitative, educational, and therapeutic programming that helps individuals build the skills, accountability, and mindset needed to lead law-abiding, productive lives.

Equipping individuals with the tools to think differently and live productively.

In FY25, RRU expanded its Basic Counselor Training Program from one week to three weeks— an intentional investment in developing and retaining highly skilled counselors. The enhanced program incorporates real-world scenarios and fieldbased practice, giving new counselors meaningful opportunities to apply classroom learning directly to daily supervision responsibilities.

This expanded training approach has already strengthened counselor readiness and consistency, reinforcing the Department’ s capacity to reduce recidivism through effective, high-quality intervention and support.
