Respiratory Laboratory Procedures II
Respiratory Laboratory Procedures III
Respiratory Clinical Practice I
The application of principles and theory covered in RC 230 will be provided in a campus laboratory setting. Laboratory exercises will include: basic physical assessment of the patient, administration of medical gases, humidity and aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, chest physiotherapy, and lung imaging interpretation.
The application of principles and theory covered in RC 231 will be provided in a campus laboratory setting. Laboratory exercises include arterial blood gas sampling, pulse oximetry, pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy and obtaining electrocardiograms. The application of principles and theory covered in RC 232 will be provided in a campus laboratory setting. Laboratory exercises will include: care and management of the patient ' s airway and extensive hands-on experiences with a variety of mechanical ventilators. Emphasis will be placed on set up, maintenance and adapting / modifying the ventilator to specific circumstances. Hands-on simulations will be incorporated as time allows.
The student will be placed in selected clinical sites to observe, practice and become proficient in the performance of skills, procedures and / or modalities addressed in the RC 230, RC 231, RC 240 and RC 241 courses. The specific competencies will entail: the administration of medical gases, humidity and aerosol therapy, lung expansion therapy, chest physiotherapy, and basic physical assessment.
RC-251
Respiratory Clinical Practice II
Students will be assigned to clinical sites to develop proficiency in skills,
procedures, and modalities covered in the 200 level respiratory care courses.
Training includes administering medical gases, humidity and aerosol therapy,
lung expansion therapy, chest physiotherapy, and basic physical
assessments. Students will also gain competency in arterial blood gas
sampling and interpretation, airway management, ventilator setup,
maintenance, and adaptation to patient-specific conditions. Mastery of all
required skills and procedures is mandatory for graduation from this
program segment.
