RC-330
Advanced Respiratory Theory I
This course offers an in-depth exploration of physical assessment, focusing on the recognition, diagnosis, treatment, and management of pathophysiological conditions in neonates and pediatric patients. It also covers the initiation and management of mechanical ventilation for these patient populations. The latter portion of the course is dedicated to advanced cardiology topics including recognizing and treating various heart arrythmias.
RC-331
Advanced Respiratory Theory II
This course will address advanced topics in critical care medicine. It will
specifically cover advanced topics in airway care and management,
hemodynamic monitoring and all phases of mechanical ventilation, to
include: pneumatic, electric, microprocessor, fluidic, high frequency, and
RC-332
RC-334
Advanced Respiratory Theory III
Respiratory Research noninvasive ventilators.
This course builds on the second half of RC 330, focusing on invasive and non-invasive cardiac monitoring, arrhythmia recognition and treatment, and advanced cardiac life support. It also covers topics including disaster management, indwelling pleural catheters, respiratory home care, pulmonary rehabilitation, and a review of pulmonary function testing.
This course focuses on the principles and practice of conducting medical research. Students will learn to identify, review, and critically analyze results from selected cardiopulmonary journal articles. The course culminates in the development and presentation of a comprehensive research project.
RC-336
Respiratory Pathophysiology
This course builds on the foundational knowledge from the RC 233 course by
providing a detailed examination of select cardiopulmonary diseases and
conditions. Topics include the definition, etiology, clinical manifestations,
pathology, diagnostic imaging, laboratory findings, prevention, prognosis,
and treatment of cardiopulmonary conditions found on the National Board
for Respiratory Care’ s credential examination. Emphasis is placed on
developing care plans, implementing respiratory protocols, and applying the
American Association for Respiratory Care( AARC) clinical practice guidelines.
RC-337 Respiratory Seminar-Capstone
This course serves as a comprehensive review and preparation for the credentialing process. It provides extensive practice with multiple-choice questions, mock computerized clinical simulations, and case studies to prepare students for credential examinations. The course also focuses on discussing and presenting professional issues and topics related to the field of respiratory care. Special emphasis is placed on employment preparation, including job selection strategies, personal needs assessments, résumé writing, and interviewing skills.
