Program Description: The history degree supports students’ search for truth through excellence in teaching and scholarly research to develop knowledge, technological competence, and aesthetic and ethical values for success in a global society. The program provides history majors with an educational foundation that prepares them for careers in law, government, industry, and other public and private sectors. This program offers a 4 + 1 teacher certification option. Students who are considering that option should consult with the program director.
Program Student Learning Outcomes: PLO1 Effectively read, reflect upon, and respond appropriately to historical information. PLO2 Ask pertinent questions about the human past that lead to solving current human problems. PLO3 Identify, evaluate, analyze, and interpret primary and secondary sources. PLO4 Critically assess differing, and often conflicting, interpretations of historical events and intellectual movements. PLO5 Become responsible, thoughtful, and compassionate citizens in the global world of the Twentyfirst century through the study of history.

Academic Standards / Grade Requirements: The minimum passing grade for all required courses in the major is“ C.” Any grade lower than a“ C” in more than one major course may result in dismissal from the program. Students who earn less than a“ C” in a required course may repeat it only once; if the repeat results in a grade less than a“ C,” the student will be dismissed from the program.
Attendance Policies: Students are expected to adhere to the attendance policies outlined by course instructors in individual courses.
