As participants explored the museum , they were immersed in the diverse narratives that have shaped the African American community ' s journey . The theme of African Americans in the Arts provided a lens through which to appreciate the significant contributions of this community to the artistic landscape of America .
The Authority ' s decision to kick off Black History Month at the iconic museum in Washington , D . C ., was a great success . This shared experience created a sense of community among those in attendance . The event celebrated the richness of African American history and ignited a collective commitment to preserving and honoring the diverse stories that shape American history .
Willard
Ensuring the preservation of the rich historical heritage surrounding our airport locations continues to be a paramount focus for the Airports Authority . In March , our Diversity team proudly revealed the Village of Willard wall exhibit at Dulles International Airport . This exhibit offers compelling insights into the community that once thrived before the inception of Dulles . For those interested , the exhibit is conveniently located on the second level of the main terminal , adjacent to the Emirates ticketing counter and opposite the mobile lounge area .
Abingdon
After two years of planning and development , the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority unveiled the new plaques at the Historic Abingdon Plantation , situated at Reagan National Airport . A poignant ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the occasion , shining a spotlight on the profound contributions of the enslaved individuals who once resided on the plantation grounds .
Women ’ s History Month
This year ' s Women ’ s History Month celebrated the achievements of women dedicated to diversity , equity , and inclusion ! Our time filming the incredible women of MWAA for our impactful “ I AM …” video was not only enjoyable but also enlightening . Employees shared heartfelt compliments to women across the organization , reflecting the richness of our diverse organization .
On International Women ’ s Day , we proudly showcased our commitment to " inspiring inclusion " by donning purple , green , and white attire , and displaying our " heart " gestures in solidarity .
In addition , we inaugurated our Soaring Together Speaker Series . Our Chief Revenue Officer , Chryssa Westerlund , set the tone by sharing her inspiring journey of overcoming adversity in her career . Following her , Juanita Britton , an esteemed entrepreneur and longtime concessionaire at Reagan National Airport , shared invaluable insights on building a legacy and achieving financial success in a competitive industry .
