Jackson Reed Hospitality Academy visit Ronald Reagan National Airport
The collaboration between the Social Impact Team , Fraport , DCA Customer Service , and DCA Airport Operations recently hosted students from the Hospitality Academy at Jackson Reed High School . This academy offers a curriculum focused on customer service and hospitality , nurturing students ' interest in careers within the travel and tourism industry .
This partnership with Jackson Reed marks our third consecutive year , aiming to provide educational insights into potential careers directly with the Airports Authority and in collaboration with partner airlines and concessionaires at Reagan National Airport . The visit comprised a comprehensive walking tour through National Hall and the new concourse E , offering students the chance to meet with airport partners such as Legal Seafoods , American Airlines Premier Lounge , and our own Airport Operations Hub at DCA .
The visit concluded with a speaker lunch held in the Historic Lobby , facilitating discussions led by our Concession Manager Team . They shared their diverse hospitality journeys , encompassing experiences in sports stadiums , various US cities , and airports , highlighting the breadth of opportunities available to hospitality students . The Fraport team emphasized how their career paths represent just a fraction of the vast possibilities awaiting aspiring professionals in the hospitality industry .
A Day at the Smithsonian ' s African American Museum
The Airports Authority kicked off Black History Month by organizing a day at the Smithsonian ' s National Museum of African American History and Culture on February 3 for Authority employees , their families and friends .
The day began with a compelling historical overview provided by Robert Parker , a trained historian and consultant . With academic expertise , Parker set the stage for the visit , shedding light on this year ' s theme : African Americans in the Arts . His wealth of knowledge was impressive , as he emphasized the importance of preserving and securing African American history .
The event was a learning experience and also a call to action . Parker challenged attendees to recognize their role in preserving African American history , urging them to come together and actively contribute to this collective endeavor .
