• To assay and statistically characterize the prevalence of Lp ( a ) plasma levels in the population of patients with cardiovascular risks and cardiovascular disease with selected demographic data ( race , gender , age ), clinical data ( BMI , diabetes , tobacco use ), and lipid profile ( HDL , LDL , triglycerides , HbA1cL ) characteristics .
• To examine the associations between Lp ( a ) plasma levels and the onset and course of cardiovascular outcomes ( all-cause mortality , cardiac death , stroke , heart failure , other acute coronary syndromes , myocardial infarction , stroke , coronary revascularization ), net of demographic clinical , and lipid profile and other cardiovascular risk factors .

73 reporting core laboratory adjudicated data to drive advancement and innovation in the management of patients with peripheral artery disease . Participants in the study not only submit procedural data , patient profile risk factors , medication outcomes , and procedural details , they also provide the actual images from the cath lab . The data is de-identified and adjudicated using core laboratory software that is FDA approved . It is the only registry in the country conducting this type of data adjudication .
Lipoprotein apheresis
The Lipid Metabolism Center , newly established at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas , features lipoprotein apheresis , a technology that removes lipoproteins from a patient ’ s blood and returns the cleansed blood to the patient ’ s body . The center is one of only a handful of facilities in North Texas performing the procedure and was made possible through a generous grant to the Baylor Scott & White Foundation from the Brigitta and Bob Smith Foundation . Patients with elevated lipid levels that have not responded completely to medication intervention are candidates for lipoprotein apheresis . Those with familial hyperlipidemia also benefit from the procedure . The first patient was treated at the hospital ’ s Lipid Metabolism Center in May 2024 .
Lipoprotein ( A ) Bio-Repository Analytic Study
This secondary analysis of randomized clinical trials is a collaborative study with the National Institutes for Health ( NIH ) and supported by a research grant from Novartis . The study ’ s two objectives include :
The study also will create a data and biospecimen repository at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas that will allow medical students , residents , fellows , and faculty to ask novel questions in the future about biomarker assays related to early recognition and treatment of heart and vascular diseases .
