New studies and grants highlight outstanding year for Cardiovascular Research and Innovation Program

Since assuming the role as the Paul J . Thomas Endowed Chair and Chief of Cardiovascular Research and Innovation at the Baylor Scott & White Research Institute just over a year ago , Subhash Banerjee , MD , FACC , FSCAI , has worked tirelessly to bring new studies and grants to the program . He continues to serve as the Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Cardiology .
In fiscal year 2024 , his accomplishments included initiation of a new Lipid Metabolism Center at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas , launch of a new research grant to study Lp ( a ) plasma levels , establishing a data and biospecimen repository , and the acquisition of National Quality Registry designation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ( CMS ) for a multicenter Excellence in Peripheral Artery Disease ( XLPAD ) program .
Multi-Center Registry for Peripheral Arterial Disease Interventions and Outcomes ( XLPAD )
XLPAD is an observational study designed to evaluate the effectiveness and use of stent and non-stent-based therapies among peripheral artery disease patients . The study creates a registry that includes entry of procedural and clinical follow-up information into an online data collection software .
As principal investigator for the study , Dr . Banerjee is leading the creation of the registry to capture data across Baylor Scott & White Health as well as from institutions around the country on endovascular interventions . The registry has received National Quality Registry designation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ( CMS ). It has also been endorsed by the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions ( SCAI ).
The collaborative study brings cardiologists , vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists onto a common platform for systematically collecting and
