Other Bills of Interest

In addition to the bills FHBA refers to as our “ priority legislation ”, there are an even greater number of bills that the advocacy team tracks diligently due to their impact on the construction industry . Although this is not an exhaustive list of every single bill , below are additional highlights of bills that are expected to make a major impact on the industry .
Department of Commerce Agency Package SB 1420 by Senator Danny Burgess ( R- Zephyrhills ) HB 1419 by Representative Kaylee Tuck ( R- Lake Placid ) Final Action : Passed House : 104-9 Senate : 38-1
To address pending action by the Orange County Charter Review Commission attempting to severely stifle future development , the following language was passed in the Commerce Package : “ A citizen-led county charter amendment that is not required to be approved by the board of county commissioners preempting any development order , land development regulation , comprehensive plan , or voluntary annexation is prohibited unless expressly authorized in a county charter that was lawful and in effect on January 1 , 2024 .”
Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service Agency Package SB1084 by Senator Jay Collins ( R- Tampa ) HB 1071 by Representative Danny Alvarez ( R- Riverview ) Final Action : Passed House : 86-27 Senate : 26-10
This bill contains a provision preempting the regulation of EV charging stations to the state . The preemption was in reaction to a few local jurisdictions attempting to mandate the number of EV stations in residential and commercial sites .
FHBA will closely follow the rule-making process as the Department of Agriculture implements EV charging regulations .
