Firefighter Exploration Tour
In 2024, the Airports Authority launched a Firefi ghter Exploration Tour for high school students from Prince George’ s County Public Schools. A total of 41 students from Charles Herbert Flowers and Gwynn Park high schools gained fi rsthand experience of the daily duties of an airport fi refi ghter and had the opportunity to interact with members of the Airports Authority Fire Department at Dulles.
After a hearty welcome, students toured Fire Station 302 and were introduced to tools and apparatuses specifi c to the airport, such as the crash truck, which holds 3,000 gallons of water or 400 gallons of fi refi ghting foam.
The group then made its way to the fi refi ghter training facility, where students were treated to a demonstration showcasing the simulated ignition of an airplane and the response of the Airports Authority crash truck as it extinguished the fl ames.
Our partnership with Prince George’ s County Public Schools and their Fire Cadet Program refl ects our commitment to fostering educational opportunities and nurturing the next generation of leaders at the Airports Authority.
