Freya Callard , Queenwood , Can I make my brother fly away ?
Freya was interested in how many helium balloons it would take to lift her younger brother off the ground after reading Roald Dahl ’ s ‘ The Twits ’. She used balloons to lift various items , finding out each helium balloon was able to lift 28 grams . Freya calculated that she needed 607 helium balloons to lift her brother off the ground .
Annabelle Gervaise Woo , St Joseph ' s Catholic Primary School , Flower Power- A 7 year old ' s investigation into what liquids are bad for plants and what makes plants grow
Annabelle was curious to see the effects of watering plants with different liquids . Her results showed the plants thrived the best with water and that the pansies did not survive and that the snow peas only grew somewhat with juice , cola and a vitamin solution .
Clover Ng , PLC Sydney , Demystifying Misty Goggles
Clover is a swimmer who , like others , gets frustrated when her goggles fog up and was curious to find out what is the most effective way to de-fog them . Her results showed there are a number of common household ingredients that defog goggles and glasses , with toothpaste , dish soap and shaving cream being the most effective .
